Telehealth

Telehealth information for Dr Chia's patients

What is Telehealth?

Telehealth refers to providing medical consultations over the phone or via videoconferencing. This has been an accepted method of providing care to rural and remote areas for many years. Telehealth has become increasingly helpful in providing specialist care to patients since the Covid-19 pandemic whilst they undergo self-isolation or quarantine, and to reduce the risk of exposure to the virus for the community.

What services can be provided by Telehealth?

Telehealth is suitable for all consultations that do not require a physical examination. Limited examinations can be performed via the Telehealth platform.

Dr Chia will take a full history and review all imaging. Any further tests such as CT scans or MRI scans can be arranged. Dr Chia will take the time necessary to discuss your problem and work out a treatment plan.

What if surgery is recommended?

Both emergency (urgent and essential) orthopaedic surgery and elective surgery can be performed as all restrictions that were in place during the pandemic have been lifted.

Emergency cases include:

  • Fractures
  • Dislocations (unreduced)
  • Infections
  • Acute major tendon disruptions (such as biceps, pectoralis major)

Elective cases include:

  • Arthroplasty (joint replacement)
  • Instability surgery
  • Rotator cuff surgery
